Johnnie Junior Carpenter, 81, of Marmaduke passed away Monday, January 18, 2016. He was born, July 9, 1934, at Liberty Hill, AR to the late Johnny P. and Lura Carpenter. Johnnie was a member of Rector First General Baptist Church for 25 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved watching his grandchildren play ball. Johnnie drove a dragster at George Ray’s Drag Strip and he loved stock car racing. He enjoyed all the time spent with his coffee shop buddies.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Imogene, Lorine, and Ila.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Carpenter, of the home; son and daughter in law, Steve and Gina Carpenter, of Paragould; daughter and son in law, Debbie and Robert Penny, of Branson, MO; sister, Georgia Yost; grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Carpenter, Amber Penny, Nikki and Jason Smith, Kyle and Amber Penny; and 10 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016, at the First General Baptist Church in Rector. The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the First General Baptist Church in Rector with Kenny Burns and Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway, AR.
Pallbearers will be Randy Rogers, Jeff Smart, Jim Mabrey, Mike Dowdy, Steven DeMent, and Ron Benson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Featherston, Lowell McKenney, Charlie Manchester, Jr. Cavaness, Bobby Tracer, Bill Martin, R.V. Wesley, Clovis DeMent, and Terry Wyatt.
