Baxter Lee "Red" Turner

Baxter Lee “Red” Turner, 76, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016, in the presence of family. He was born December 20, 1939, in Larkin, AR, to the late Baxter E. and Virginia Turner. A Vietnam Veteran and Army medic, Baxter retired after 21 years of service in the United States Armed Forces.  Baxter was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  Known as the "fun" Grandpa, he was a loving family man who took great joy in bragging on his grandchildren.  He enjoyed wood working, reading, western movies, and was an avid story teller.  He was an active volunteer with The Good Samaritan Mission, and he tried to make a difference in children’s lives by encouraging them to make the most of their education.  Baxter was a loving, generous man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Baxter was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frankie Turner.
Survivors include Baxter’s loving wife of 53 years, Anna Mae Turner; sons and daughters in law, Baxter Lee, Jr. and Teresa Turner, of Sedalia, MO, Perry L. and Lesley Turner, of Conway, AR; daughter and son in law, Kathy M. and Gabriel A. Cook, of Paragould; brothers and sisters in law, Earnest and Paula Turner, Ricky and Linda Turner, Terry and Susan Turner; sisters and brothers in law, Carol and Joe Lane, Phylis and Henry Howard; grandchildren, Laura Langdon, and her husband Brad, Meredith Montz, and her husband, Kody, Jessica Turner, Beth Turner, and Alex Cook; great-grandchild, Isaac Montz.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00p.m. Friday, July 22, at Phillips Funeral Home.  A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday, July 23, at Providence Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery.
